My List of Ten Hopes & Dreams
Written by: M.B.Varville-Rodriguez

Starting a NEW YEAR creates a storm of emotions for me. There are the memories of things I had hoped to accomplish last year mixed with the guilt of what was left undone or incomplete.  I have lists of projects that will carry over into this year, new goals I will invest my time pursuing, and the never ending daily chores that will, in reality, NEVER get "finished" as long as I have breath in my body.  It's just the reality of our finite human existence.

The writer in me becomes overly introspective. The mom in me looks at her children in wonder that another year has gone by, and they are growing up way too fast.  And there's nothing I can do to slow that process, even if I wanted that to happen.  Acceptance is a fickle bitch. And yes, this is the year when I send my internal editor on vacation with greater frequency...thus the uncensored "swear" word placed sporadically throughout my posts.

So buckle up, dear readers.  I definitely feel the need to let loose and relax the many constraints I place upon myself.  It's time to let go of the fear that my writing will be judged and categorized in ways that make me uncomfortable.  But guess what?  If this writing endeavor is going to succeed, I've got to put myself out there and allow my literary children to grow and leave the nest too.  And we know how hard is can be to give our children the freedom to leave the nest.

1. I want to open up this site to publish other writers too. Sharing the insights of others is important to me,
and I enjoy promoting the talents of fellow authors.

2. Every Wednesday, I hope to add a writer's prompt and encourage anyone who wants to participate.
One writer per week will be selected and highlighted here.
I will promote the article writer's personal author page, social media links,
and help bring attention to the article. (Inviting you to participate!)

3. Working on additional pages for this site will include resources, favorite blogs, and book recommendations
This is definitely a "carry over" from last year's goals.
2019 is another opportunity to make it happen.

4. I hope to include my "human" children in highlighted articles too.
They have become creative, gifted writers in their own right.
I would love to invite them to share too.

5. Let's be honest. Writing is a real job, and as such it would be great to increase my revenue this year.
Time to branch out and submit more articles to outside publications!

6. Travel is a big interest for our family. Learning ways to include our experiences and adventures
as we write recommendations, reviews, and family focused activities
will be a new challenge that we can work on together.
A family that writes together...well, you get the idea.

7. This is the year that I will plan, label, and organize
my articles, sift through project files, and get my house in order.
 (Literally and figuratively.)
Minimalism allows my brain to function better.
Time to remove distractions and FOCUS!

8. While I dream of improving my financial health and wellness as a writer,
I also intend to promote my personal health and fitness
This has been a huge challenge.
I have been recovering from car accidents for quite some time.
None of the accidents were my fault. (Rear-ended by inattentive drivers.)
Physical Therapy has been a blessing.
I have tried dry needling, cupping, and myofascial release
 to alleviate the pain.
This year I will continue to receive treatment and work on exercises at home.

9. It's important to recognize the value of staying fully hydrated.
I love my (Pure Leaf) iced tea.  It is my favorite beverage.
I really need to remember that water is important too.
Adding fruit to my water can help increase my intake.
I have a special tumbler that I ordered from
It keeps my drinks super cold. It's perfect!

10. One of the most important factors I want to be more
mindful of this year is my need for peaceful meditation.
I crave quiet, calm moments that give me time to reflect.
These times are critical if I hope to re-energize.
When I ignore my personal needs, my soul suffers.
Let's remind each other to give importance to being still.
Nurturing our heart, mind, and spirit is necessary
as we work toward accomplishing our goals this year.
